A high-level government delegation, led by Deputy Defence Minister Ernest Brogya Genfi, embarked on an official mission on Thursday, November 13, 2025, to commiserate with the bereaved families of the recent tragic recruitment stampede that claimed multiple lives.

The visit sought to convey the state’s deep sorrow and confirm direct governmental support for those affected by the disaster.

The stampede, which occurred during a national recruitment exercise, resulted in the loss of six lives, a figure that has shocked the nation and highlighted the desperate scramble for employment opportunities.

While the delegation’s primary intent was to visit all six bereaved families across the region, heavy downpour across parts of the Greater Accra Region made comprehensive travel impossible.

Speaking on behalf of the government, Deputy Defence Minister Brogya Genfi offered his condolences and made a definitive commitment to the families.

The Deputy Defence Minister, in his statement, assured the families of the support of the government and assistance.

This pledge is understood to cover immediate funeral expenses, potential psychological counselling services, and long-term financial assistance, demonstrating the state’s responsibility following the tragic accident on government property.

The multi-sectoral nature of the delegation underscored the breadth of the government’s response, bringing together representatives from security, social protection, and regional administration. Key members included:
