Kenneth Gilbert Adjei, swearing-in the newly constituted Board of Directors for the Engineering Council of Ghana

Acting per the Engineering Council Act, 2011 (Act 819), the President of the Republic of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama, has appointed members of the Governing Board of the Engineering Council.

The nine-member Board is chaired by Ing. Dr. Sitsofe David Addo. Other members included Ing. Samuel Magnus Asiedu, Engr. Prof. Mike Agbesi Acheampong, Ing. Michael Dompreh-Ampofo, and Engr Eric Atta Sono.

The rest of the members were: Ing. Prof. Kwabena Britwum Nyarko, Ing. Ebenezer Kwesi Haizel, Esq., Anthony Osei and Ing. Isaac Bedu (Registrar).

The Board, which is the regulatory body for the practice of engineering in Ghana, also plays a crucial role in ensuring public safety and maintaining high standards of practice. The Council registers all engineering practitioners, accredit all engineering educational programmes, and set ethical guidelines for the practice of the engineering profession.

Inaugurating the Board, the Minister for Works, Housing and Water Resources, Kenneth Gilbert Adjei, on behalf of the President, John Dramani Mahama, congratulated the newly constituted Board of Directors for the Engineering Council of Ghana, adding that, “your selection not only recognises your expertise and leadership but also shows the government’s confidence in your collective ability to guide the Council through this vital phase of national transformation”.

Mr. Adjei added that the government expects the Council to serve as a beacon of excellence in infrastructure delivery, ensuring that every project, whether a rural bridge, a national highway, a public hospital, or a water treatment facility, is executed to the highest standards, is climate-resilient, and meets the long-term needs of our communities.

“Your role in promoting local content and fostering Ghanaian engineering talent is equally vital. Through these initiatives, we will generate sustainable jobs, spur homegrown innovation, and reduce our reliance on external expertise”, the Minister concluded.

Explaining the Engineering Act, the Registrar of the Council, Ing. Isaac Bedu said, the engineering Council, established by the Engineering Council Act, 2011 (Act 819) and its regulations, is the regulatory body for engineering practice in Ghana. Its primary goal is to uphold the highest standards of engineering practice and ensure public safety and ethical conduct.

The Council regulates engineering professionals, firms, and educational institutions.
