Gomoa Central Special Economic Zone to become first major industrial hub in Central Region - Vice President

Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang says the government is committed to industrialisation and job creation following an inspection of the proposed Gomoa Central Special Economic Zone project in the Central Region.

The Vice President visited the site on January 8 alongside the Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central, Kwame Asare Obeng, as part of efforts to advance plans for what is expected to become the first major industrial hub in the region.

They were received by traditional authorities, including the Omanhen of Gomoa Ajumako, Obrempon Nyanful Krampah XI, and the Omanhen of Gomoa Assin, Obirifo Ahunako Ahor Ankobeah II.

According to the Vice President, the Gomoa Central Special Economic Zone represents a major opportunity for the Central Region and reflects Ghana’s resolve to pursue industrialisation through action, innovation and strategic partnerships.

“When fully developed, this project will generate jobs, attract industries and significantly contribute to the economic landscape of the region,” she noted, adding that the initiative aligns directly with national priorities on industrialisation and the 24-hour economy agenda.

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang said under the leadership of President John Mahama, the government has set a clear objective of creating jobs over the coming decades, stressing that the Special Economic Zone offers a practical pathway to delivering on that vision.

She indicated that while the project will prioritise local development, it will also welcome both Ghanaian and international investors, positioning Gomoa as a key destination for industrial growth.

“With continued collaboration between government, traditional authorities and investors, this vision can be turned into reality for Gomoa, the Central Region and Ghana as a whole,” the Vice President said.
