Richard Ahiagbah

The Communications Director of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Richard Ahiagbah, has strongly criticised the government’s decision to revoke public sector appointments made after December 7, 2024.

He warned that posterity will judge the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for its actions.

His remarks follow a directive from the Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, ordering the annulment of all appointments and recruitments made in the final weeks of former President Nana Akufo-Addo’s administration.

The directive cited concerns over non-compliance with good governance principles and the government position on end-of-tenure appointments.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday, February 20, Mr Ahiagbah condemned the move.

He asserted that to uphold his oath to serve the interests of all Ghanaians, President John Mahama must promptly reverse the termination of these appointments.

“God and posterity will not forgive the NDC for the livelihood-destroying revocations,” he wrote.

He continued “President John Dramani Mahama, please stop or reverse these mass revocations in fulfillment of your oath of office.”

He urged the administration to reconsider its decision, arguing that the revocations were unjust and detrimental to those affected.

The former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has also described these dismissals as unfair and undemocratic.

In a post on Facebook, he urged President Mahama to be a “President for all” by immediately halting the termination of “legitimately employed” Ghanaians.

“The least a party that campaigned on jobs could do, under conditions of unemployment, is to innovate and create jobs rather than dismiss people,” Dr Bawumia wrote.

The former Vice President also expressed concern over the government’s intentions to further dismiss Ghanaians who have been recruited into the security services.

Additionally, he condemned the growing insecurity in the country, citing relentless attacks on individuals and state institutions by organised thugs affiliated with the ruling party.
