GNFS, Cadet Media launches ‘Fire Service Tales’ to promote safety education

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), in collaboration with Cadet Media Ghana, has launched a new initiative to enhance fire safety education nationwide.

The programme, christened Fire Service Tales, will air on Fire Service TV and other platforms. It aims to share fire safety messages creatively and train pupils and students to become young safety leaders and storytellers.

It also seeks to strengthen collaboration among the Fire Service, the Ministry of Tourism, the Police Service and international partners.

Mrs Daniella Mawusi Ntow‑Sarpong, Chief Fire Officer (CFO), said at the launch in Accra that the programme would use real stories about firefighters, emergencies and safety to educate young people in an engaging and impactful manner.

“Fire Service Tales will make our Service stronger by helping us teach better through stories, stay connected to communities, and raise future safety-conscious leaders and ultimately make the country safer,” she stated.

Mrs Ntow‑Sarpong said her office was working with Ulster University in the UK and the Ghana Education Service to develop a Fire Safety Curriculum for all basic schools, adding that the initiative would soon be launched to ensure fire safety was taught in every classroom.

The event also featured the Cadet Media Personality Awards, where pupils and students were recognised for using media to educate, inspire and lead.

Mrs Ntow‑Sarpong congratulated the award winners and urged them to continue using their voices to promote safety and good citizenship.

She encouraged students, teachers, partners and the media to work together to build a fire‑safe Ghana.

Mr. Divine Owusu‑Ansah, Director of Culture and Creative Arts at the Ministry of Tourism, speaking on behalf of the Minister, said the programme, which would air every Saturday with a repeat on Sunday, would help viewers reconnect with their cultural heritage.

He said the blend of storytelling and safety awareness would motivate young people to “dream bigger, work harder and believe in the power of their voices.”

“The Ministry remains committed to supporting such initiatives. As we launch Fire Service Tales, let’s keep the truth alive and every child who watches is inspired to dream. Let every story ignite curiosity. Let every message shared, shape responsible future leaders and let the award remind young talents that excellence is possible,” Mr. Owusu-Ansah said.

He commended Cadet Media Ghana for supporting young people and building partnerships that uplift and unite.

Mr Jacob Darko, Director of Cadet Media Ghana, appealed to school heads and the Ministry of Education to integrate media education into the school curriculum, noting that it teaches communication, leadership and environmental consciousness.

Pupils and students from various primary and senior high schools received plaques and souvenirs at the awards ceremony.
