The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has urged journalists across the country to remain committed to responsible, accurate and development-oriented journalism, stressing the need for the media to prioritise the public interest and promote national development.
During a press briefing on Tuesday, the GJA President, Albert Dwumfour, called for fair, balanced and factual reporting, noting that the media has a critical role to play in fostering social cohesion and strengthening Ghana’s democratic process.
The GJA reiterated its unflinching commitment to enforcing strict adherence to professional ethics, describing ethical journalism as the foundation of credibility and public trust.
“Ethical journalism remains the backbone of our profession,” the Association said, adding that it will continue to uphold accountability, strengthen professional standards and defend press freedom at all times.
Outlining its plans for the year, the GJA announced that its National Executive will sustain monthly press briefings and intensify efforts to promote ethical journalism and champion the welfare of media practitioners.
The Association also disclosed plans to organise major industry events, including the celebration of World Press Freedom Day, the International Day to End Impunity for Crimes against Journalists, and a series of training programmes aimed at building journalists’ capacity across various subject areas.
In addition, the GJA confirmed preparations for the 30th GJA Media Awards, one of the country’s most prestigious platforms for recognising excellence in journalism.
The Association called on journalists, stakeholders and development partners to support its programmes and activities, stressing that collective effort is essential to advancing professionalism and safeguarding media freedom in Ghana.
The GJA reaffirmed its commitment to contributing meaningfully to national discourse while ensuring that journalism in Ghana remains ethical, credible and impactful.
