The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) is aiming to decentralise its operations in a more coordinated way, using regional leadership for effective governance.
President of the Association, Albert Dwomfuor, has charged six regional branches, including the Ashanti Region, to secure a permanent office to streamline activities.
During the swearing-in ceremony of the newly elected Ashanti Regional executives, he announced that the 2025 GJA Awards will be hosted in the Ashanti Region.
He further revealed that the Ashanti Regional Minister, Hon. Dr. Frank Amoakohene, had already made provisions by allocating land to support the Association’s work.
Ashanti Regional Minister, Hon. Dr. Frank Amoakohene, in his remarks, assured his commitment to the GJA, encouraging the regional branch to formally apply through the Lands Commission for the allocation to be ratified and to further provide support in all matters concerning the GJA Awards to be held in the region.
The swearing-in event brought together journalists across the region, with the presence of key figures such as the National President and the Regional Minister adding weight to the occasion.
The newly elected executives, Chairman Kofi Adu Domfeh, Vice Chairman Nicholas Osei-Wusu, Secretary Beatrice Spio-Gabra, and Treasurer Dr. Neta Kris Abiana Parsram were formally inducted into office.
The newly elected President of the regional branch, Kofi Adu Domfeh, who also serves as Editor at MGL Kumasi, is seen as a unifying force after a re-run election.
His leadership is expected to harness collective strength among journalists in the region, fostering both professional development and press freedom.
With the awards set for Ashanti next year, anticipation is already high. The hosting of the GJA Awards in Manhyia is not only a recognition of the region’s contribution to journalism but also a fresh opportunity to showcase unity, growth, and excellence in the profession.
