GhIE inducts 125 professional engineers in Accra

The Ghana Institution of Engineering (GhIE) has inducted 125 Professional Engineers into the institution at the Engineering Centre, Roman Ridge, Accra.

In his welcome statement, the President of the GhIE, Ing. Ludwig Annang Hesse, said, becoming a full member of the institution provides you with the right to vote and to be voted for into any of the constitutionally sanctioned positions in the Institution, adding, “You can also participate fully, with a vote at all AGMs [Annua General Meetings] of the Institution”.

“The institution will also certify to the Engineering Council of Ghana that you have met all the requirements for registration under the Engineering Council Act, 2011 (Act 819), to enable you receive your license to practice as a Professional Engineer”, he mentioned.

He added that, for one to remain in Good Standing in the institution, and for the institution to forward his/her name for the annual renewal of his/her registration with the Engineering Council, he or she have the responsibility to:

a. Meet the CPD requirements annually in accordance with the CPD guidelines of the institution.

The CPD requirements include the need to receive an annual CPD certification by participating in the Annual Ethics Lecture organised by the institution (the next edition is slated for 26th October 2026 at the Engineering Centre);

b. Go through the Scenario Based Learning programme offered by the GhIE that can be accessed via the website of the Institution; or

c. Undertake other ethics-based activities acceptable to the institution.

The requirement include paying annual subscription for the following year by the 30th November of the previous year in accordance with Article 9.2.2 of the Constitution.

The Chair of the Membership Committee Ing. Dr. Michael Ankamah Bekoe, presented 125 Professional Engineers for the inductions. They comprised 117 candidates who went through the normal route and successfully passed the Engineering Professional Examination.

Additionally, eight candidates were exempted by Council from the Technical Review and Written Examination due to their exceptional professional attainment, experience and qualifications. These candidates went through what the institution term as Confirmation Hearing.

Of the 125 Professional Engineers inducted, 45 were Civil Engineers; 27 were Mechanical/Agric/Marine Engineers, 24 were Chemical/Mining Engineers and 29 were Electrical/Electronic Engineers.

The Board Chairman of the newly constituted Engineering Council, Ing. Dr. David Sitsofe Addo, admonished the newly inducted Professional Engineers to acquire additional training and knowledge in other areas of study to make their profession complete.

He advised them to enter into politics, business and other professions to enhance their engineering work.

The Immediate Past President of GhIE, Ing. Kwabena Bempong, provided a word of advice to the newly inducted engineers.

The Registrar of the Engineering Council, Ing. Isaac Bedu also explained the Engineering Act, 2011 (Act 819) to the new engineers and asked them to wait for their license to practice from the Council before they can officially work as engineers.

Present at the ceremony included: the President-Elect of GhIE, Ing. Sophia Tijani; the Vice President of GhIE, Ing. Dr. Patrick Bekoe; the Ag. Executive Director of GhIE, Ing. Samuel Magnus Asiedu; Engineering Council members; Past Presidents of GhIE; Chairpersons of the Technical Divisions of GhIE; family members of inductees and the general public.
