Thirty-Nine Ghanaian Engineers participated in the 11th UNESCO African Engineering Week and the 9th Africa Engineering Conference in Kampala, Uganda.
South African delegates were about 66 and Ghana had the second-largest number of international delegates. In all, there were 947 delegates, made up of 732 Ugandan Participants, 215 International Delegates and 25+ Countries Representatives.
Ghana received eight awards in all, comprises individuals, Committees and Companies.
One highlight was the launching of a book titled “The Odyssey of Milestones and memories of FAEO: 1972 – 2024”. The foreword of this book was written by a Past President of GhIE, Ing Dr. Kwame Boakye and featured the legacy of FAEO’s Past Presidents, including Ghana’s Ing Carlien Bou-Chedid (First Female President of FAEO). Both personalities were honoured with citations.
Other Ghanaian Engineers who received awards included: Ing Sophia Tijani, the President-elect of GhIE and two ECG staff, Ing Alberta Amankwaa and Florence Nabila who made presentation on behalf their group on: “Dual-Mode Smart Waste Bin with Sensor-Based Sorting and Waste Compacting for Manual and Automatic Operation.”

At the event, Ghanaian participants played key roles in the celebration of the Africa Engineering Week. They included:
- Ing D.K. Nyante, a Past Executive Director of GhIE, served as the Session Chairperson for the “Strengthening Engineering Integrity: ADR, Policy, Ethics and Anti-Corruption Mechanism.”
- Ing Isaac Bedu, Registrar of Ghana Engineering Council, was a keynote speaker during the session on “Strengthening Engineering Integrity” on the topic of “Ethics in Practice.”
- Ing Naa Lamkai Quaye-Ballard, President of WinE Ghana, delivered “Welcome Remarks by Chair FAEO-WIE” during the 8th African Women in Engineering Forum.
- Ing Dr. Enyonam Kpekpena, the new Executive Director of GhIE, delivered a fraternal message as Chairperson of WFEO-WIE at the 8th Africa Women Engineers Forum.
- Ing Sophia Tijani, the President-elect of GhIE, moderated a session on ‘Fireside chats’ during the 8th Africa Women Engineers Forum.
- Ing. Carlien Bou-Chedid, a Past President of FAEO and GhIE, was responsible for the Award for Past FAEO-WIE Chairs.
- Ing Juliet Gbormittah, Director of Membership Services of GhIE, was the MC for the 8Th Women in Engineering Dinner Programme.
- S.A. Nchor, A. Amankwaa, F. A. Nabila, B. Amponsah, & J. Agyapong: Authored the paper on “Dual-Mode Smart Waste Bin with Sensor-Based Sorting and Waste Compacting for Manual and Automatic Operation.” Ing Alberta Amankwaa and Florence Nabila (both staff of ECG) presented the paper on behalf of their group.
- Ing Michael Botse-Baidoo participated in the CEOs forum on Water Utilities while Ing Sophia Tijani took part in the forum on Energy Utilities
Commenting on the Conference, the President-Elect of GhIE, Ing Sophia Tijani said, “I had the privilege of joining Energy CEOs in a panel discussion at the ended 11th UNESCO African Engineering Week and the 9th Africa Engineering Conference in Kampala. I don’t know why Refilwe Buthelezi asked me to join the energy CEO roundtable discussion at the last minute when I’m not yet a CEO, but, I accepted the challenge and was happy to share my thoughts”.
