The Greater Accra Branch of the Ghana Institution of Engineering (GhIE), known as Branch 4, has paid two separate courtesy calls on the Dean and students of the School of Engineering Sciences of the University of Ghana, Legon, and the Director of Engineering of the Ghana Airforce  Headquarters, Burma Camp.

The Branch 4 Chair, Ing. Kwofie Pinto, said the purpose of the visit was for the Branch 4 officials to familiarise themselves with the engineering operations and activities of the two institutions, and to encourage them to pay attention to the Engineering Council Act 2011, Act (819) and the provisions in the LI 2410.

The visits also explored the opportunities for potential areas of collaboration to strengthen the institution’s engagement with them.

At the University of Ghana’s Engineering Department, the Dean, Prof. Elsie Effah Kaufmann, who is a Fellow of the GhIE, called on the GhIE to consider the re-establishment of the previous relationship GhIE had with the Engineering Faculty of the University of Ghana in respect of actively participating in the running of the department.

She said, previously, GhIE used to run programmes at the Engineering Faculty of the University of Ghana, and she would like this relationship to be re-instituted.

Prof. Effah Kaufmann explained that the University currently runs five Engineering Programmes, namely; Agricultural Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Computer Science Engineering, Food Processing Engineering and Material Science Engineering.

Group Capt. Yaw Gyimah mentioned that their engineering department operates in areas of Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Agricultural Engineering and Aeronautic Engineering.

They also requested for a special Engineering Professional dispensation such as internship opportunities in other engineering establishments for their artisans and certifications for same. They advised that the GhIE consider necessary steps to rope in engineers, technologists and craftsmen who practice in the Army, Airforce and Navy, to enhance enforcement of the Engineering Council Act.
