The Embassy of Ghana in Washington, D.C., has held a solemn memorial service in honour of the late Minister for Defence, Dr Edward Omane Boamah; the Minister for Environment, Science and Technology, Dr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed; and six other officials who perished in the tragic military helicopter crash of Wednesday, August 6.
The ceremony, which drew mourners from across the region, was attended by a delegation of Ghanaian clergy based in Maryland, along with dignitaries, community leaders, and members of the Ghanaian diaspora.
It provided an opportunity to reflect on the lives, service and enduring contributions of the deceased to Ghana’s progress and development.
Acting Head of Mission, Jane Gasu Aheto, expressed heartfelt gratitude to the ambassadors, dignitaries, and members of the Ghanaian community who took the time to sign the Book of Condolence.
Delivering a moving tribute on behalf of the clergy, Bishop Evans Glover urged Ghanaians to remain steadfast in their faith.
He assured attendees that God, in His mercy, would comfort, protect and preserve the nation so that such a calamity would not occur again.
The gathering also remembered the tragic accident at Juaso that claimed the lives of 16 members of the Saviour Church Youth, offering prayers for their grieving families.
The memorial served as a dignified occasion to celebrate the legacy of the fallen, acknowledge their service in public life, and provide space for Ghanaians abroad, as well as friends of the nation, to share in collective mourning.
