Ghana’s East Legon Academy shine with 2025 Dana Cup triumph in Denmark

Ghana’s East Legon Football Academy (ELFA) U-12 boys have captured global attention after clinching the championship title at the 2025 Dana Cup in Hjørring, Denmark.

Facing off against 61 elite teams from 26 other nations, ELFA emerged victorious in the Boys U-12 division, putting Ghanaian youth football firmly in the international spotlight.

The win marks a remarkable achievement for a team competing in just its third appearance at the tournament.

The young team’s journey to glory included dominant performances throughout the knockout stages.

They routed Germany’s JSG Fintau 4-0 in the Round of 16, followed by a convincing 3-1 victory over Greenland’s B-67 2 in the quarterfinals.

Their campaign culminated in a commanding 4-0 win against Norway’s Madla IL in the final, a performance that left spectators and scouts alike impressed with their precision and composure.

Founded in 2019 in Accra, ELFA is rapidly becoming a rising powerhouse in youth football development across Africa. Blending football training with academic support, the academy emphasizes character, education, and leadership.

Through programs like the Emerge Project, ELFA continues to offer scholarships, mentorship, and international exposure for young players.

“This win is about more than just a trophy,” said Winston Yeboah Danso, Founder and President of ELFA.

“It represents what happens when opportunity meets preparation. Our boys showed the world that Ghana can produce not only talented footballers but responsible young leaders. This is just the beginning.”

For ELFA, this year’s triumph represents rapid progress. Just two years after their Dana Cup debut in 2023, the academy has now reached the pinnacle of the tournament.

Head coach Michael Edmond Nii Tettey emphasized the players’ growth both on and off the pitch,”These boys played with heart, discipline, and a deep understanding of the game. But more importantly, they grew as individuals. That’s what we aim for total development.”

The academy’s return to Ghana was met with jubilant celebrations at Kotoka International Airport, where family, fans, and supporters gathered to welcome home the young champions.

Several players spoke of how the international experience pushed them to improve and dream even bigger.

Crucial to ELFA’s journey has been the continued support from Elevate Global Consult Limited, a partner dedicated to youth empowerment through sports and education.

“Our partnership is built on belief, belief in what young people can achieve when given the right tools,” said Akordy Abingya, CEO of Elevate Global Consult. “This victory is a shining example of that vision in action.”

The 2025 Dana Cup ran from July 21 to 26 and included a vibrant opening ceremony and a week of high-level competition.

ELFA’s performance didn’t just earn them a trophy it solidified their place as one of Africa’s most promising youth academies with growing influence on the global football map.
