Former Sekondi MP and Minister for Tourism, Andrew Egyapa Mercer, has expressed confidence that Ghanaians will return the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to power in the 2028 general elections.
He argued that, despite the party’s defeat in 2024, the NPP remains the best option for Ghana’s future development.
Speaking on Metro TV on Friday, September 12, Mr. Mercer noted that the outcome of the 2024 elections had been a significant setback for the party but maintained that the NPP’s track record and vision would resonate with the electorate once more.
“Elections come with lessons, and we have learned ours. I believe strongly that the Ghanaian people will return to us in 2028,” he said.
Mr. Mercer stressed that the NPP must rebuild trust with citizens by addressing internal challenges and reconnecting with the grassroots.
He called for unity within the party, noting that divisions and complacency had partly contributed to their electoral loss.
“If we remain united and focused on the issues that matter most to Ghanaians, there is no doubt that we will regain power,” he emphasised.
He further explained that political cycles are often shaped by public sentiment and economic realities, suggesting that by 2028, the NPP’s policies and message of economic transformation would once again appeal to voters.
“Ghanaians know the NPP is a party of development and progress. That record cannot be erased, and I am confident it will speak for us in the next election,” he added.
