Reverend Dr. Enoch Thompson, Executive President, Ghana Baptist Convention, has urged Ghanaians to acknowledge the goodness of God through the National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving (NDPT).

He said Ghana’s relative peace and stability in the face of regional challenges were evidence of divine grace, hence the need to show gratitude as a nation.

“God has indeed been gracious to the nation, and it is both our duty and responsibility to express gratitude to Him,” the Executive President added.

Rev. Dr. Thompson was speaking during a courtesy visit paid by the planning committee of the NDPT to the Ghana Baptist Convention, to brief them of the event, formally invite them and seek their blessings as well.

The planning committee also visited the Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council (GPCC).

The NDPT is designed to bring together Christians, Muslims and other religious groups together for a common purpose, on the theme: “Reflect, Reset, and Renew for National Prosperity.”

The Christian segment of the programme will be held at the forecourt of the State House from 0800 hours to 1000 hours, followed by Muslim prayers at the National Mosque from 1230 hours to 1400 hours.

The event is scheduled to take place simultaneously in all 16 regions and 266 districts.

Rev. Dr. Thompson said as a people of faith, they firmly believed that it was by the grace of God that Ghana had remained the nation we know today.

He said circumstances could have been far worse, as seen in some of the neighboring countries where citizens faced significant hardship.

“Indeed, the fact that many from these nations view Ghana as a haven, seeking refuge here for security, safety, and economic opportunities is a testament to the divine favor we continue to enjoy,” he added.

He said the establishment of the NDPT was a commendable and positive initiative, one that must be wholeheartedly embraced.

The Executive President said as a denomination, they were committed to offering their full support to ensure the successful celebration of this year’s NDPT, as well as in the years to come.

“We extend our sincere gratitude to His Excellency for the visionary initiative of instituting the National Prayer and Thanksgiving Service, and for establishing it as an annual national observance,” he stressed.

Mr. Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, the Chairman of the Committee, emphasised the spiritual significance of the event, which had been designated as a National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving.

Mr. Ankrah noted that the initiative reflected the President’s recognition of the crucial role traditional rulers played in maintaining national peace and unity, especially during politically tensed periods.

“His Excellency believes Ghana is an oasis of peace in a turbulent continent not by accident, but by divine providence,” he stated.

He called for a politically neutral atmosphere on the day, urging Ghanaians to wear white or national colors instead of political party paraphernalia.

“This is not about any political party, it is about Ghana, it is about thanking God for how far He has brought us,” Mr. Ankrah added.
