Professor Baffour Agyeman-Duah, a governance expert, has praised the Mahama administration for improvements in Ghana’s economic and political environment, saying ordinary Ghanaians are beginning to feel the positive effects of government policies.
Speaking on JoyNews’ The Pulse during the 2025 in-review segment, Professor Agyeman-Duah noted that everyday citizens, from market traders to taxi drivers, are sensing a “great sense of relief” due to measures aimed at easing economic hardships.
“There’s no doubt that things have changed. There’s vast improvement in the environment of the country economically and politically… ordinary people… will tell you that the government has indeed introduced some measures that have mitigated the problems or the hardships that people used to complain about,” he said.
He highlighted that global factors, such as lower oil prices and high gold prices—reaching $4,400 per ounce—have also benefited the country, but stressed that the government’s strategic actions, including coordination between the Central Bank and the Ministry of Finance, have played a key role in managing inflation and stabilising the economy.
Professor Agyeman-Duah acknowledged that while not all challenges have been resolved, qualitative improvements in people’s lives are noticeable.
“It doesn’t mean everything is fine. Some people may question the methods… but the fact is that these methods were available for all governments. If this government is clever enough to use them effectively, that is also a method that is working for them,” he added.
His remarks come as Ghanaians continue to assess the economic performance and governance measures of President John Mahama’s administration, particularly in the context of rising living standards, fiscal management, and ongoing reforms aimed at economic stabilisation.
