Ghanaian players abroad: Rahman and Thomas-Asante among scorers as Fatawu assists

Ghanaian players abroad were back to their best in Europe over the weekend after wrapping up World Cup qualification during the international break.

Many played key roles for their clubs as they look to stake claims for places in Ghana’s squad for the 2026 tournament in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

Here’s a wrap of their performances:

In the Premier League, Antoine Semenyo played a part in Bournemouth’s opening goal during a 3-3 draw against Crystal Palace but was unlucky not to be credited with the assist.

Despite Tottenham’s 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa, Mohammed Kudus impressed and had a goal ruled out.

In the Championship, Abdul Fatawu Issahaku assisted Leicester’s goal in a 1-1 draw against Portsmouth, while compatriot Jordan Ayew came on as a late substitute. Fatawu now has two assists and three goals in the league.

Brandon Thomas-Asante netted his sixth goal of the season as Coventry defeated Blackburn 2-0 to move top of the Championship table.

With three assists, Thomas-Asante now has nine goal contributions in 12 games across all competitions.

In Greece, left-back Abdul Baba Rahman scored his first goal of the season for PAOK in a 2-0 victory over AEK Athens.

Lawrence Ati-Zigi made a crucial penalty save as St. Gallen edged Young Boys 2-1 to stay a point behind the Swiss league leaders.

In Belgium, winger Joseph Opoku provided his fourth assist of the season as Zulte Waregem thrashed Gent 4-1.

Joseph Paintsil wrapped up the MLS regular season with a goal for LA Galaxy in their 2-1 win over Minnesota United, taking his tally to 15 goals and three assists in 34 appearances.

Daniel Adu-Adjei continued his fine form, scoring in back-to-back games for Rijeka in a 1-1 draw with Slaven Belupo. The 20-year-old England-born forward has three goals and one assist in seven appearances since joining Rijeka from Bournemouth in the summer.
