Ghanaian players abroad: Kudus and Semenyo star in Premier League as Partey makes Villarreal debut

Ghanaian players abroad had an explosive start to the 2025/26 season, with many scoring and making decisive contributions for their teams. Here’s a wrap of their performances over the weekend.

England

Antoine Semenyo kicked off his Premier League campaign with a brace against defending champions Liverpool on Friday night at Anfield, though Bournemouth eventually lost 4-2.

The match was briefly halted around the half-hour mark after the Ghana forward reported racial abuse while preparing to take a throw-in. Referee Anthony Taylor addressed the issue with both managers and captains before play resumed. Semenyo went on to score twice, but late goals from Chiesa and Salah sealed victory for Liverpool.

Mohammed Kudus provided two assists on his Premier League debut for Tottenham in their 3-0 win over Burnley on Saturday. Both assists were converted by Richarlison, including a spectacular overhead kick.

Tariq Lamptey missed Brighton’s 1-1 draw with Fulham due to injury.

Germany

Ragnar Ache made a dream debut for FC Köln, coming off the bench in the 75th minute to provide two late assists in their 2-1 comeback win over Regensburg in the German Cup. The forward arrives in the Bundesliga after netting 34 goals over the past two 2. Bundesliga seasons.

France

Ibrahim Osman marked his Ligue 1 debut with an assist, setting up Lassine Sinayoko’s winner as AJ Auxerre beat Lorient 1-0. Gideon Mensah and Elisha Owusu also started for Auxerre.

Salis Abdul Samed made his debut for Nice as a substitute in their 1-0 defeat to Toulouse, while Kojo Peprah Oppong started for Nice. Abu Francis was not in Toulouse’s squad.
