A Ghanaian living in the United States has called out a school regulation in his district which he sees as disturbing to his ward.

Neil Acheampong is said to be the head pastor of Family Life Chapel who has currently been trending on social media regarding its internal policies on some LGBTQ issues.

During a meeting, Mr Acheampong expressed his disapproval of a new school policy known as Policy 443 that allows children to become LGBTQ+ without their parent’s consent.

At the meeting in Maryland, he argued that this policy disregards the role of parents as the first line of safety and protection for their children in such important decisions.

“There is an issue that actually bothers me about it, and I want to just make that clear if there will be a review of the policy in regards to the fact that asking if my child could be able to be a transgender, and then a school teacher or somebody else in the [school] system could help the child to make that decision without going through the parent is actually disturbing,” he said in the video shared on TikTok.

Acheampong warned that this policy could open the door for predators to take advantage of young, vulnerable students.

“I think that policy needs to be looked at again because if my five-year-old is crossing a street, a parental instinct will be that I will never allow the child to cross the street by herself. Because the first line of safety for a child is a parent, and I believe we need to go back to those basic things,” he stated.

He suggested that the policy should be reviewed to ensure that parents are included in the process of transitioning their children into transgender groups.

“Sometimes I sign paperwork for sunscreen, parental consent. For every simple little thing there is parental consent except this. So I am asking myself what is going on here. I see a door that is being opened for predators who are gradually creeping into the school system to destroy. Your good work will be destroyed, so I ask you to go back and look at policy 443.”

The parent emphasised that it is the responsibility of parents to protect their children from any potential harm that could come from this new policy.

He urged the school system to review the policy to ensure that the rights of parents are respected.

Meanwhile, Ghana’s Constitutional and Legal Affairs Committee of Parliament has recommended that the House pass the controversial Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values Bill 2021.

According to the Committee, a majority of Ghanaians are in favour of the legislation.

While admitting that the bill had “significant human rights concerns”, the Committee informed the House that it petitioned the Attorney-General for its opinion.

The 18-page document which was signed by the Committee’s Chairperson, Kwame Anyimadu-Antwi has told Parliament to “pass into law, the Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values Bill, 2021, subject to the amendments proffered by the Committee.”
