The Ghana Technical and Vocational Education and Training Service (Ghana TVET Service) and Trans-Sahara Industries Ltd. (TSI) have announced a strategic Memorandum of Partnership (MoP) to transform and reshape Ghana’s technical education and sustainable transport landscape.

This collaboration bridges national skills development and cutting-edge green manufacturing to fuel Ghana’s industrialisation and climate goals.

A partnership built for impact

The agreement, signed on Friday, 18th July, 2025, unites the national mandate of Ghana TVET Service – established under the Pre-Tertiary Education Act 2020 (Act 1049) – with TSI’s vision as a pioneering Ghanaian micro-mobility company.

Together, they tackle critical challenges head-on: enhancing industry relevance in TVET, modernising training infrastructure, and creating clear pathways from the classroom to gainful employment in high-growth sectors.

Under this groundbreaking MoP, TSI commits to:

  1. Industry-Driven Training: Developing and delivering practical training programmes aligned with TSI’s assembly and future manufacturing operations (bicycles, e-bikes, electric motorcycles, rickshaws, battery charging stations). \
  2. R&D Collaboration: Partnering with Ghana TVET institutions on applied research in micro-mobility and sustainable energy solutions.
  3. Enhanced Infrastructure & Access: Providing instructional support, equipment, product discounts, and financing options to boost TVET delivery capacity.
  4. Employment Pathways: Creating direct linkages for TVET graduates into skilled roles within TSI and its distribution network.
  5. Distribution Network Integration: Leveraging TSI’s network for practical training exposure and potential entrepreneurship opportunities for graduates.

Ghana TVET Service will integrate TSI’s industry expertise into its national framework, ensuring curricula reflect real-world demands and providing a platform for TSI to contribute directly to building a globally competitive workforce.

Addressing national priorities

“This partnership embodies the core mission of Ghana TVET Service,” stated Dr. Eric Kofi Adzroe, Director General, Ghana TVET Service.

“By deeply integrating a dynamic, future-focused company like TSI into our ecosystem, we directly address fragmentation, strengthen industry linkages, and elevate the quality and perception of TVET. This is how we equip Ghanaians with the practical skills essential for national industrialisation and create tangible job opportunities,” he added.

TSI’s commitment underscores its role as a catalyst for sustainable development. “Our vision to accelerate zero-carbon transport in Africa starts with localising skills and manufacturing,” said Gerald Acheampong, CEO of Trans Sahara Industries, TSI. “Partnering with Ghana TVET Service allows us to build the skilled Ghanaian workforce needed to not only assemble but eventually design and manufacture cutting-edge micro-EV solutions right here in Ghana, for Africa and beyond. This is true industrial transformation.”

The collaboration directly supports multiple national objectives:

  • 24H+ & Ghana’s Industrialisation Drive: Providing the skilled technical manpower crucial for advanced manufacturing for automotive assembly and manufacturing.
  • Green Transition: Building capacity in the assembly, maintenance, and future manufacturing of electric vehicles and charging infrastructure.
  • Youth Employment: Creating clear pathways from certified training to jobs in a high-growth sector.
  • TVET Reform: Demonstrating a model for effective public-private partnership to overcome historical challenges in skills delivery.
  • Export Potential:Developing skills aligned with TSI’s ambition to make Ghana a hub supplying African and American markets.

Looking ahead

This MoP sets the foundation for concrete projects and programmes to be rolled out in the coming months. It signifies a shared commitment to fostering innovation, entrepreneurship, and sustainable economic growth through high-quality, industry-relevant technical and vocational education.
