Ghana Stammering Association hosts 2nd ‘Women Who Stutter Conference’
The 2025 Women Who Stutter Conference has been held under the theme, “Turning Challenges into Voices of Strength.”
The virtual event, attended by people from diverse backgrounds, featured an online panel discussion where they shared their personal experiences and provided support to one another.
Addressing participants, the Chairperson of the Ghana Stammering Association, Nana Akua Owusu, emphasised the importance of overcoming the barriers that stammering may pose to achieving one’s aspirations and dreams.
She encouraged women who stammered to build their confidence by moving towards acceptance through communication, advocacy, resilience and education.
“The important thing for persons who stammer is to work towards acceptance, because once acceptance is achieved, so many other things will unravel and fall into place,” she concluded.
The main speakers included Hope Mobee and Dr Amani Osman, who shared their personal experiences and strategies for overcoming challenges in their careers despite being stammerers.
The month of October is widely recognised and celebrated as International Stammering Awareness Month, dedicated to raising public awareness about stammering (also known as stuttering), a complex neurological condition that affects the flow of speech.
This year’s conference, organised by the Ghana Stammering Association, was intended to serve as a platform for a broader and more sustained campaign of education and advocacy.
