Ghana has declared full readiness for the upcoming COP30 Climate Conference in Belém, Brazil, with the official launch of its national negotiation team to represent the country at the global climate summit.
Speaking on JoyNews’ The Probe on Sunday, the Chief Executive Officer of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Prof. Nana Ama Browne Klutse, revealed that Ghana has assembled a strong team of experts drawn from various institutions to lead negotiations on different thematic areas of climate action.
“I’m happy to announce that, for the first time, Ghana is very much prepared. Last week, we launched the group of negotiators who will be leading discussions on behalf of Ghana at COP30. These are climate experts from different institutions coming together to speak for Ghana.”
Prof. Browne Klutse explained that each thematic area — including climate finance, loss and damage, response measures, research, and technology — has a dedicated lead to ensure Ghana’s interests are well represented at the conference.
“For example, I am leading discussions on research and technology to make sure that every issue related to climate change from Ghana’s perspective is well presented,” she noted. “We also have leads for climate finance, response measures, and loss and damage.”
She stressed that COP30 will focus on accelerating action and implementation, moving beyond years of discussions to concrete climate interventions, adding that Ghana’s team is fully committed to achieving measurable outcomes.
The event to launch Ghana’s negotiation team was graced by Brazil’s Ambassador to Ghana, Marina Gonçalves Madeira, underscoring the growing cooperation between both nations ahead of the landmark climate summit.
COP30, scheduled for November 2025 in Belém, will bring together leaders and experts from around the world to drive forward the global climate agenda, with a strong emphasis on the voices and priorities of the Global South.
