Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, is disappointed with the happenings in the Ghana Premier League, labeling it as “in its sorry state.”
The country’s top-flight competition is facing several challenges, including poor officiating, lack of a headline sponsor, and absence of broadcast rights holders.
It hit a new low in hooliganism when Asante Kotoko supporter Francis Frimpong “Pooley” was stabbed to death during a Week 19 clash against Nsoatreman in Nsoatre.
Adams admits there is work to be done to restore the league to its former glory.
“Our Premier League is in its sorry state,” Kofi told Luv Sports.
“Underfunded, poor discipline, [poor] corporate governance system, fan indiscipline, lack of security, we are not even coaching our fans.
“We need to look at all these areas to try and up our game.
The 49-year-old was sworn in by the President John Mahama on Friday with his Excellency describing Ghana Sports as “in shambles” and charged Kofi to “restore” Ghana’s sporting pride.
Kofi replaces Mustafa Ussif, who served as Minister of Sports from 2021 under the New Patriotic Party, led by Nana Akufo-Addo.
