Ghana Police Assure Citizens of Solid and Secure Elections

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr Akuffo Dampare, has assured citizens of the Ghana Police Service‘s commitment to ensuring peace, security, and law and order during the election period and beyond. Dr Dampare made this assertion when he received the Democracy Cup on behalf of the Ghana Police Service, which was presented by a Parliamentary delegation led by Second Deputy Speaker Mr Andrew Asiamah Amoako.

“We want to assure Ghanaians that our commitment to ensuring peace, security, and law and order during and beyond the election is solid, is intact, and we can assure you that the result will be there for everybody to see,” Dr Dampare stated.
Dr Dampare commended the Second Deputy Speaker and his team for their visit, describing it as a significant milestone in the country’s democratic journey.

Significance of the Democracy Cup

The Democracy Cup is an initiative by the Parliament of Ghana to promote democracy and unity among Ghanaians. It was presented to various security agencies, including the Ghana Armed Forces and the Electoral Commission, in recognition of their roles in maintaining peace and security. The Democracy match, to be played between Accra Hearts of Oak and Kumasi Asante Kotoko, serves as a unifying force that brings Ghanaians together despite their differences.

Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Hon. Andrew Asiamah Amoako, emphasized the essence of the Democracy Cup in making Ghanaians feel ownership of the democratic process. “We have been preaching tolerance, we have been preaching patience that even if you are not happy about what’s going on, an opportunity will come to you to effect the change you want to see,” he added.

The Democracy Cup match is under the theme: “30 Years of Parliamentary Democracy under the 4th Republic; The Journey Thus Far.”
