Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin has announced the implementation of a 24-hour economy framework within Ghana’s Parliamentary Service, aiming to enhance productivity and reduce unemployment.

The move follows the official presentation of the finalized national policy document by Presidential representatives on 26 June 2025.

According to parliamentary proceedings, staff in the official division will now work extended shifts, typically reporting at 8:00 a.m. and concluding between 10:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. Speaker Bagbin emphasized the dual purpose: “This means they are going to work more hours… particularly those in the official division. It will allow more people to work here and help reduce unemployment. The load of work here is unimaginable.”

The extended operational model is designed to optimize legislative workflow while creating additional employment opportunities within the parliamentary service. It aligns with Ghana’s broader 24-hour economy policy, which promotes three-shift operations across economic sectors to accelerate job creation and service delivery.
