
The Ghana Navy has arrested 10 Nigerian nationals who attempted to stow away on a Panamanian-flagged merchant vessel, MV Grand Venus, at the Tema Port.
According to a statement from the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), the arrest was made on Friday, 31st October 2025, after a distress call was received from the vessel.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the stowaways had secretly boarded the ship while it was docked at the Lagos Port in Nigeria.

“The Ghana Navy has on Friday, 31 October 2025, arrested ten stowaways on-board the Panamanian-flagged Merchant Vessel Grand Venus in Tema following a distress call,” the statement read.
Following the arrest, the Ghana Navy escorted the vessel to the main harbour, where the suspects were handed over to the relevant authorities, including Port Control, the Ghana Immigration Service, and the Marine Police for further investigation.
The GAF assured the public that additional details will be communicated as investigations continue.
“The Ghana Navy wishes to assure the general public that additional details will be communicated as the investigation progresses,” the statement added.
