Ghana National Fire Service directs officers, cadets to pay feeding fees by December 31

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has directed its recruits, cadets, and some existing personnel to pay outstanding feeding fees incurred during their training period.

The directive, issued in a circular seen by Joy News and dated October 9, 2025, signed by the Director of Finance, DCFO Mark Brako-Appiah Jnr., explained that the decision has become necessary due to funding challenges.

“Due to funding challenges, Recruits, Cadets, and existing personnel who went for training were made to pay something to subsidise their feeding cost for the period of their training,” the letter stated.

According to the GNFS, the list of affected personnel has been grouped into two categories — those whose outstanding balances will be deducted directly from their bank accounts, and those who must make cash payments.

Personnel are expected to make payments at the Salaries Office, GNFS Headquarters, or pay directly into the Service account at the Bank of Ghana.

The Service has given officers until December 31, 2025, to settle all outstanding amounts.

“We write for you to bring to their notice that they have up to 31st December 2025 to complete payment,” the directive added.

This move comes amid growing concerns over funding gaps within security agencies, with some officers reportedly having to cover portions of their training and operational costs.

The directive was circulated to all regional fire officers, commandants, and the commanding officer at headquarters for strict compliance.
