Ghana moving in the right direction under Mahama - Victoria Bright

International corporate lawyer and entrepreneur Victoria Bright has described Ghana’s trajectory under President John Mahama as positive, noting that the country is moving in the right direction following his first year in office.

Speaking on JoyNews’ Newsfile on Saturday, January 10, Ms Bright praised the administration for setting clear priorities early on and providing immediate direction.

“I would say he made a solid start, and we need to give him credit for showing immediate focus and early direction setting,” she said.

On the economic front, Ms Bright acknowledged that while macroeconomic stability has improved, the broader turnaround remains gradual.

“We have all seen the macros, we have talked about macro stability gains, the gains are visible, but the broader economic turnaround remains gradual. But I guess that should be expected. We need to feel this in our pockets and in our households because people are still feeling some pressure,” she explained.

She highlighted the government’s efforts to restore market confidence, strengthen fiscal credibility, and manage public expectations.

“The government has spent time coming down to the market, restoring confidence in our economy, strengthening our fiscal credibility, and managing expectations generally,” she said.

Ms Bright also welcomed recent relief on fuel prices and the reduction of both domestic and international debt.

“I think fuel prices have just gone down and hopefully they stay down, and so that is a welcome relief to all of us. Our domestic and international debt are both reduced,” she added.

Reflecting on the overall outlook, Ms Bright expressed optimism about the country’s direction.

“I think things are moving, Ghana is moving in the right direction and we pray that it stays that way,” she said, adding that President Mahama’s tone and approach have helped build public trust.

“I think his tone is also good, I think there is a notable shift in tone and that has also contributed towards public trust.”
