The newly reconstituted Board of Directors of the Ghana National Gas Company Limited, led by its Chairperson, Mr Kofi Totobi Quakyi, has reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, accountability, and technical excellence during a two-day familiarisation tour of the company’s operational facilities in the Western Region.
Addressing staff at the Atuabo Gas Processing Plant (GPP1), Mr Totobi Quakyi underscored the critical role of the company’s technical workforce, emphasising the Board’s collaborative leadership approach.
“We want to place emphasis on the technical work being done here,” he stated. “You are the ones who make Ghana Gas what it is, and we want to do so working with you, not above you. We’re here as partners, not as overlords.”
The tour was designed to provide the Board with a practical understanding of the company’s operations, complementing earlier briefings. Key installations visited included the stalled LPG Bottling Plant in Axim, the completed but unfurnished Gas Lodge, and the state-of-the-art Trauma Centre—currently idle despite being fully equipped.
Expressing concern about the non-operational status of some of these projects, Mr Totobi Quakyi remarked: “It’s surprising that a fully equipped trauma centre remains inactive. It’s a facility funded under a major national loan, and we must ensure it serves its intended purpose.”
He assured staff that steps would be taken promptly to make the trauma centre functional in the coming weeks.
Another major stop was at Ayinasi, where a fully funded 20-bed mini-hospital is under construction. The Board also used the opportunity to commend technical staff for a decade of dedicated service at GPP1.
During a durbar with staff, the Chairperson reiterated the Board’s commitment to prudent financial management and operational integrity. “We will insist on doing the right things and planning in a way that brings savings. These savings must benefit Ghana Gas and, ultimately, Ghana,” he said.
He called on staff to remain open-minded and committed to a shared vision as the company prepares for its next strategic phase.
With Ghana Gas gearing up for the development of the second phase of the Gas Processing Plant (GPP2), Mr Totobi Quakyi noted that securing government investment would depend on the company meeting key operational benchmarks.
“We must prove that we are ready,” he emphasised. The tour also included a courtesy call on the Paramount Chief of Nsein and Board member, Awulae Agyenfi Kwame, as well as site inspections at the Prestea Regulatory and Metering Station and other key operational centres in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis.
