
Mohammed Huzeinu will serve 100 days in prison as sanction for invading the pitch during Ghana’s clash against Chad in 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
The 21-year-old run into the pitch which is seen as a breach of security in CAF regulations.
The action could potentially lead to a fine imposed on the Ghana Football Association.
As a result, the sentence is to serve as “a strong warning to fans” ahead of subsequent matches.
“The FA has consistently urged fans to refrain from such actions, emphasising the importance of discipline and adherence to match day protocols to avoid fines and maintain Ghana’s reputation in international football,” the GFA statement said.
In 2020, Ghana was fined an amount of $10,000 after a fan invaded the pitch during an AFCON 2021 Qualifier between Ghana and South Africa. The said incident occurred in Cape Coast in November, 2019.
