The Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) has publicly endorsed light heavyweight contender Jonathan “Jon Power” Mbanugu ahead of his WBO Global title fight against Albania’s undefeated Alban Bermeta.
The bout takes place July 11, 2025, at Tirana Lake Amphitheatre. Mbanugu holds a 17-fight record (15 wins, 14 KOs), while Bermeta enters at 19-0-1 (15 KOs).
In an official statement signed by Acting GBA President Roger Barnor, the Authority expressed unwavering faith in Mbanugu’s capability under high-pressure conditions. “The GBA is confident in Mbanugu’s ability to deliver… We assure him of the nation’s support,” the communication read, disseminated through its newly established Communications Directorate.
Mbanugu’s camp, Osibor Management, echoed the optimism. Manager Gordon Frimpong highlighted the fighter’s evolution: “Power keeps learning and improving after every fight.” Frimpong further confirmed plans for a potential domestic showdown against “Ambitious Tilapia” should Mbanugu secure the title.
The fight marks a significant moment for Ghanaian boxing, with the nation rallying behind its contender on international soil.
