The GH Schools, a passion driven Technical Educational Institution, has matriculated some 986 freshmen and women under its broad educational umbrella to undergo their usual remarkable tutorials.

The school which is located at Achimota, Abofu near the New Station, held its new members’ induction ceremony at the forecourt of the schools’ mega studio under the theme, “Foresight, Focus, and Fulfillment: A Compass for Successful TVET STUDENTS.”

This semester’s (January – June 2025 Academic semester) matriculation marked the 23rd cohort for the Media, 14th for the Cosmetology, 12th for the Fashion, 8th for both Catering and Technology schools.

The Media School comprises of Journalism and Media Studies, TV and Film Production, and Journalism and Media Arts. The other schools are the Cosmetology School, Fashion School, Catering and Technology Schools.

Sharing his journey and experience dated back 1997, the guest speaker, Mr. Gilbert Abeiku Aggrey (Deputy CEO, Ghana Tourism Authority), have tasked the matriculants not to allow anyone look down upon them because they have under gone a Technical and Vocational Education Training (TVET).

According to him, the world today is revolving and TVET is shaping the world landscape as the job industry is not looking for bureaucrats, rather technocrats. Hence, to be relevant in society today one must have the necessary requisite skills and not just the theory.

“Do not let anyone look down on you because you study TVET. You are going to have the skills. We have those who seat in the classroom just to learn the theory, but after you have studied the theory, you will need to apply. With this, we can identify a vast difference between those who just study theories and those that do the practical work.” Mr. Abeiku asserted.

“If there is any media journalism school that does not have the equipment and tools to train the learners, you (as GH Media School students) are far better than them.” Mr. Gilbert emphatically added.

In furtherance, the Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Authority admonished the new members of GH Schools to be positive and embrace opportunities because the future of media in Ghana depends on them.

The Broadcast Journalist, also speaking on the theme (Foresight, Focus, and Fulfillment: A Compass for Successful TVET students), opined that these words are timely and relevant as a subject for the occasion, hence one need to have a style to be able to plant the seed (acquired knowledge) they have received with these powerful words.

“The theme presented to me today is both timely and deeply relevant in a time where the media landscape is revolving rapidly. Success would not come by chance but by deliberate actions guided by these 3 principles (Foresight, Focus, and Fulfillment).” Gilbert Abeiku Aggrey stated.

Moreover, the Rector, Leslie Addo Listowell emphasised the need for the students to have a positive mind-set in approaching their academics. According to him, with the right set of mind, one can pursue anything he or she wants to pursue.

“Your mind-set is your decision to achieve. It is your mind set that keeps you active with school activities and shy you awayfrom laziness. If you have nothing doing here, you can achieve nothing. It is all about your mind-set.” The Rector said.

He also added that you will need to have a mission to be able to achieve your set target. According to him, it is your mind-set that gives you the mission and this mission is about people hence, “let your mission be humanistic.”

GH Schools for the past 10 years have steadily improved in giving quality skills to their clients. Though a private institution, their products have remarkably done well in the media space and the vocational spaces.

The institution is currently recognized by national and receives accreditation from the Commission for Technical and Vocational Education Training (CTVET). It also awards internal diploma certificate.

It is the vision and living hope of Mr. Leslie Addo Listowell to make GH Schools the first Private Technical University in Ghana.
