The Ghana Football Association’s (GFA) Disciplinary Committee has sanctioned Berekum Chelsea head coach Samuel Boadu and five of his players with GHS 1,000 fines each for misconduct towards match officials during their MTN FA Cup semi-final defeat to Asante Kotoko at the TNA Park in Tarkwa.

Coach Boadu, along with players Mizack Afriyie, Stephen Amankona, Zakaria Fuseini, and Seidu Mohammed, were cited for breaching Article 12(1)(i) of the GFA Disciplinary Code, 2019, and Article 34(6)(d) of the GFA Premier League Regulations, 2019.

Their actions, according to the GFA, were deemed unsporting and disrespectful, constituting behaviour that brought the game into disrepute.

In a statement issued on Monday, May 13, by the GFA, it was stated that the individuals involved approached the match officials in an “aggressive, angry, and fierce manner” after the final whistle.

The match, which ended in a narrow 1–0 victory for Kotoko, saw tensions flare over a number of refereeing decisions—culminating in scenes the FA described as “contrary to the principles of sportsmanship, respect for match officials, and the integrity of the game.”

Following a disciplinary hearing, the Committee ruled that all five players and their head coach were guilty of misconduct.

However, while fines of GHC 1,000 were imposed on each individual, the Committee opted to suspend the penalties for a period of six months. The suspension is contingent upon good behaviour over that duration.

In addition to the fines, the Disciplinary Committee issued strong warnings to the offenders, particularly Coach Boadu, cautioning that any further infractions could result in stiffer sanctions, including touchline bans or suspensions from all football-related activities.

Earlier, the GFA’s Prosecutor had charged Boadu with misconduct based on post-match footage and referee reports, noting that his actions violated key ethical standards of the Association.

The former Hearts of Oak manager was granted until May 15, 2025, to respond to the charges, as were the players.

The GFA reiterated its zero-tolerance stance on conduct that threatens the integrity and decorum of Ghanaian football, especially in high-stakes competitions such as the FA Cup.

Asante Kotoko have since secured a spot in the MTN FA Cup final, where they will face Golden Kick FC.
