GES opens applications for promotion to senior ranks – Teachers and Officers encouraged to apply

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has announced the opening of applications for promotion to key senior ranks within the service.

Serving teachers and officers who meet the required criteria are invited to apply for consideration to the following positions:

  • Deputy Director
  • Assistant Director I
  • Assistant Director II
  • Principal Superintendent

Eligibility Criteria

The GES outlined specific qualification requirements for each promotional rank:

  • Deputy Director: Applicants must have been promoted to Assistant Director I in or before 2021 and must have remained continuously at post, excluding periods of officially approved leave.
  • Assistant Director I: Candidates should have been promoted to Assistant Director II on or before 2021 and must have served continuously since then.
  • Assistant Director II: Applicants should have attained the rank of Principal Superintendent in or before 2021 and remained consistently at post.
  • Principal Superintendent: Candidates must have been promoted to Senior Superintendent I in or before 2021 and should have served continuously since. Additionally, any officer or teacher who has obtained an approved undergraduate degree will be automatically placed at this rank.

Special Consideration for Postgraduate Degree Holders

Teachers and officers who hold a Master’s or Doctorate degree and wish to be considered for interview outside the usual sequence must take note of the following conditions:

  • The Master’s or PhD programme must fall within the list of approved GES courses of study.
  • The postgraduate qualification must not have been acquired prior to the applicant’s last promotion.
  • Candidates aiming to use their degree for promotion to Assistant Director II, Assistant Director I, or Deputy Director must have obtained the qualification in or before 2023.

Application Process

All applications must be submitted online via the GES promotion portal.

Applicants are required to upload the following documents:

  1. A passport-sized photograph (JPEG, JPG or PNG format)
  2. Last promotion, appointment, or upgrading letter
  3. Highest academic certificate relevant to the promotion

GES noted that all documents except for the passport photograph must be uploaded in PDF format and must be clear and legible.

Application Window

The application period runs from Thursday, 11th September to Thursday, 2nd October 2025.

The GES also emphasised that all applicants who submitted applications previously must re-apply using the current process.
