GES condemns alleged theft of food supplies at Awaso STEM SHS

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has expressed strong disapproval over the alleged theft of food supplies meant for students at Awaso STEM Senior High School in the Western North Region.

In a press statement signed by its Head of Public Relations, Daniel Fenyi, on December 26, the Service confirmed the arrest of the school’s matron, Benedicta Nyamadi, and a cook, Rachel Kyeremeng.

“The Management of the Ghana Education Service (GES) has received reports regarding the arrest of the matron, Benedicta Nyamadi, and a cook, Rachel Kyeremeng, of Awaso STEM Senior High School in the Western North Region for the alleged theft of food supplies meant for students,” the statement said

GES strongly condemned the alleged act, stressing that it does not tolerate any form of misconduct that undermines student welfare.

“Management asserts unequivocally that it does not condone any form of misconduct, abuse of office, or acts that compromise the welfare, nutrition, and well-being of students under its care,” the statement noted, adding that “the alleged act, if proven, runs contrary to the ethical standards, professional conduct, and core values of the Service.”

According to GES, the case is currently under investigation by the Ghana Police Service, and the Service has pledged its full cooperation.

“The matter is currently under investigation by the Ghana Police Service. GES fully supports the ongoing investigations and will cooperate with all relevant state institutions to ensure that due process is followed,” it stated.

The Service further assured parents, guardians, and the public that systems are in place to prevent such incidents and that appropriate action will be taken where necessary.
