The German Embassy in Accra has joined the chorus of sorrow echoing across Ghana following the devastating helicopter crash that killed eight people in the Adansi area of the Ashanti Region on Wednesday.
In a statement released shortly after news of the incident broke, the Embassy expressed profound grief and pledged solidarity with the people and Government of Ghana during what it called a “difficult and heartbreaking time.”
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the Government, families, and friends of the victims,” the statement read.
The Embassy paid special tribute to two of the deceased—senior government ministers with whom it had worked closely over the years—describing them as honourable public servants whose loss would be felt deeply.
“Their dedication to Ghana’s development, their vision, and their personal warmth will be deeply missed,” the Embassy noted, adding that the human toll of the crash extended beyond political leadership to the collective soul of the nation.
The crash, which involved a military helicopter en route to Obuasi, has been officially declared a national tragedy by the Government of Ghana. In honour of the fallen, flags are to fly at half-mast across the country until further notice.
