The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection (MoGCSP) has undertaken a comprehensive review of Ghana’s National Plan of Action (NPA) for the Elimination of Human Trafficking, aimed at improving its effectiveness and ensuring a more coordinated national response.
The exercise, led by the Human Trafficking Secretariat, brought together stakeholders from government institutions, civil society organisations, and development partners to assess the current framework and identify areas for improvement.
Opening the session, Director of the Human Trafficking Secretariat, Madam Abena Annobea Asare, emphasised the need to strengthen the Plan to better address emerging trends and challenges associated with human trafficking.
She noted that a more robust and responsive framework is essential to tackling the issue effectively.
Discussions centred on refining the Terms of Reference to enhance clarity and operational efficiency, as well as validating the implementation timeline to ensure timely and measurable outcomes.
Participants also reviewed progress made under the existing plan, highlighting gaps in coordination, data management, and alignment among implementing agencies.
The outcomes of the review are expected to inform the finalisation of a strengthened National Plan of Action, providing a clearer roadmap for interventions across prevention, protection, prosecution, and partnerships.
The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to leading efforts to eliminate human trafficking while protecting and supporting victims, particularly women and children who remain most at risk.
