Gender definition controversy: Delete online and digital versions of the teacher manual – Rev Ntim Fordjour

The Member of Parliament for Assin South, Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, has called for the immediate deletion of all online and digital versions of the controversial teacher’s manual, insisting that the material must be completely withdrawn from further circulation.

Speaking in an interview on JoyNews’ AM Show on Wednesday, January 14, while discussing the gender definition controversy surrounding the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA), Rev Fordjour said claims that the manuals are being recalled have not been backed by any clear action.

“They must recall the textbooks. They say they’re doing that, but they haven’t shown us any directive to that effect. They must delete every digital form and online version of this book.

According to him, NaCCA can no longer be trusted to independently handle the matter and must be subjected to external oversight.

“They must sit down for us to have a comprehensive review of all that have gone in, and they must ensure that the Committee on Education in Parliament is involved. They have indicated and demonstrated that Ghana cannot trust them to do what they are paid to do and what institutions are mandated to do.”

Rev Fordjour also called on government to take further action at the parliamentary level, including reviving discussions on the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill.

“So after all these things are done, we are urging the government to give instructions to the Speaker and the Majority Leader to list the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill on the order paper,” he said.

He further demanded the removal of what he described as LGBT-related proposals from the constitutional review process.

“The inclusion of LGBT proposals into the Constitutional Review proposal must be deleted from whatever white paper or committee document they want to take,” he said, insisting that such matters should not be part of any referendum process.

The Assin South MP also called for accountability from officials involved, describing the situation as unacceptable.

“They must appear before Parliament to answer questions because this is unacceptable. He added that the Director General of NaCCA should be removed from office before any appearance before Parliament.

“So by the time they are appearing, they must appear with an acting Director General of NaCCA. This must not go like that. It must have consequences,” he said.

Rev Fordjour appealed to the public to treat the issue as a national concern rather than a partisan one.

“This is not about NDC or NPP. This must not be viewed with partisan consideration. It’s about your child. It’s about the innocence of that young girl, that young boy of yours in the school.”

Rev Ntim Fordjour warned that continued silence on the issue would have lasting consequences for children, urging parents, religious leaders, and the wider public to speak out.

“Let us all rise up and show interest. If we don’t, it is your children who are being poisoned. It is your children who are being indoctrinated. After they have spent three years under President Mahama and the NDC government with these kinds of teaching and learning materials, no amount of preaching, no amount of Quranic citations, no amount of deliverance, prayer, or libation can remove and unlearn these concepts,” he said.
