GEA boss terminates appointments of district coordinators nationwide

The Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Enterprises Agency (GEA), Margaret Ansei, has terminated the appointments of all district coordinators across the country, affecting 218 officers.

The development was revealed through three internal memos issued between August and December 2025.

The first memo, dated August 27, reminded district coordinators that their contracts were renewed annually and that their performance was under review.

A follow-up memo on October 27 informed coordinators that their contracts under the BIZBOX project had ended on August 31, 2025, adding that a decision on renewal was still under consideration and would be communicated in due course.

However, a final memo dated December 3 directed regional managers of Business Advisory Centres and Business Resource Centres to ensure that “all outgone district coordinators cease coming to work with immediate effect.”

It further instructed that newly recruited coordinators be given the necessary support and guidance to assume their roles.

One affected coordinator who spoke anonymously to Accra-based Citi News expressed shock at the development, saying none of the memos suggested their appointments had been terminated.

“Unknown to us, other candidates had been interviewed and offered appointments to replace us, as if we are not Ghanaians deserving of employment too,” the source said.

“Some of us are now going back to join the pool of unemployed graduates. I stayed home after graduating in 2016 until 2023, and just when I finally got a job, government has terminated it without justification.”

The coordinator also revealed that the affected officers have not been paid their November salaries despite continuing to report to work.

“As I speak, our November salaries are in arrears. We kept reporting because no instruction had been issued asking us to stop work,” the officer added.

Despite the internal directive, several coordinators employed since 2023 say they have still not received any official notification confirming the termination of their appointments.
