GCB Bank hands over renovated dormitory to TAMASCO

GCB Bank PLC, Ghana’s largest indigenous bank, has handed over a fully renovated 12-room dormitory facility to Tamale Senior High School (TAMASCO), providing a refreshed living environment that enhances student welfare, comfort and safety.

The project forms part of the Bank’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts and underscores its commitment to fostering youth development through education.

The renovation works focused on Tamakloe House, an all-male boarding facility, and included extensive upgrades to sleeping areas, washrooms and storage spaces. Key enhancements include 33 new standard washrooms fitted with modern shower units, a new urinal and handwashing area to promote hygiene, upgraded water closets with disability-friendly features, as well as the replacement of all ceiling fans, windows, louvre blades and doors. Structural defects were also corrected, with additional works including replastering, repainting and compound levelling.

Providing context on the intervention, Managing Director of GCB Bank, Farihan Alhassan, emphasised its long-term developmental significance: “The true measure of progress is found in the opportunities we create for the next generation. By supporting educational environments like TAMASCO, we are strengthening Ghana’s human capital and contributing to a more resilient and prosperous nation.”

The MD added that the Bank views investments in education as a strategic pathway to national advancement: “When young people learn in environments that uphold dignity, safety and confidence, they are better equipped to lead, innovate and contribute meaningfully to society. Our role is to help create those environments.”

Speaking at the handover ceremony, Board Chairman of GCB Bank, Prof. Joshua Alabi, reaffirmed the Bank’s belief in creating sustainable impact within the communities it serves. He noted that the project reflects GCB Bank’s long-term commitment to supporting academic success and nation-building.

“Supporting an institution such as TAMASCO is not merely a responsibility but a deliberate and strategic investment in Ghana’s future,” said Prof. Alabi. “An investment that will benefit the about 3,000 students of the school today and the many more who will follow.”

Established in 1951, TAMASCO is one of the most respected second-cycle institutions in Northern Ghana. With a growing student population, the school continues to play a crucial role in shaping both academic performance and character development across the region.

The Headmaster, Mr Mohammed Mustapha, expressed appreciation and emphasised the significance of the intervention for student life:

“This renovated facility will make an immediate and meaningful difference to our students,” said Mr Mustapha. “Beyond the improved hygiene and comfort, it restores a sense of pride and dignity for the young men who call this House their second home. We are grateful to GCB Bank for recognising our needs and investing in the future of our learners.”

As Ghana’s premier indigenous bank, GCB Bank operates 184 branches and 340 ATMs nationwide, complemented by robust digital banking channels. With the widest branch network in the country, GCB Bank continues to support communities through accessible financial services and meaningful social interventions. Since 1953, the Bank has enabled individuals, SMEs, corporates and institutions to thrive, driven by a brand promise built on trust, support and collaboration — “Your Bank for Life.”
