Strike

The Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) has assured the travelling public and airline operators that it has activated comprehensive contingency measures to ensure uninterrupted flight operations ahead of a planned industrial action by the Ghana Air Traffic Safety Electronics Association (GhATSEA).

In a statement issued on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, the Authority said the move was to guarantee the continued safe, reliable, and secure provision of air traffic services across the Accra Flight Information Region (FIR).

The proposed strike by GhATSEA is expected to take effect on Thursday, October 30, raising concerns over possible disruptions to both domestic and international flights.

However, the GCAA says it has put in place a CNS/ATM Systems Contingency Plan, designed to maintain operational continuity during the industrial action.

“Management has developed and implemented a contingency plan that outlines detailed operational procedures, designated response teams, and robust coordination mechanisms to uphold aviation safety and service integrity,” the statement said.

The Authority further called on stakeholders and the travelling public to remain calm and confident in the measures instituted, stressing that safety remains its top priority.

“GCAA remains fully committed to maintaining the highest standards of air navigation service delivery and ensuring the safety and security of all flights within Ghana’s airspace,” it added.

The Authority also reiterated its commitment to staff welfare and human capacity development, noting that it continues to value dialogue and collaboration in addressing operational challenges.

The Ghana Civil Aviation Authority oversees the regulation, provision, and management of air navigation services within Ghana’s airspace, which plays a vital role in regional and international aviation operations.
