The Ghana Bar Association (GBA) has expressed serious concern over the continued absence of parliamentary representation for the constituents of Ablekuma North in the Greater Accra region, following their full participation in the general elections held on 7 December 2024.
The GBA highlighted what it described as a troubling delay in the completion of the electoral process in the constituency.
According to the association, despite residents casting their votes in good faith, they remain unrepresented in Parliament months after the polls.
The GBA thus called upon the Electoral Commission, the 2024 Election Security Task Force, and notably the Ghana Police Service, to act swiftly in addressing the issue.
The association also issued a measured and firm call for adherence to constitutional procedures and the principles of the rule of law in response to the ongoing process for the removal of the Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo.
The Association urged all relevant authorities to expedite the collation and declaration of the parliamentary results, emphasising that such action is essential to upholding the democratic rights of the people of Ablekuma North.
“This situation undermines the principles of democratic governance and the constitutional right of the people to representation,” the GBA warned.
It further stressed that immediate and necessary steps must be taken to rectify the impasse and restore confidence in Ghana’s electoral system.
The Electoral Commission (EC) on January 5, 2025, indefinitely suspended the collation of results for the Ablekuma North constituency in the Greater Accra Region following the elections on December 7, 2024.
JoyNews has learned that the suspension was due to discrepancies in the results from 20 polling stations.
