Despite widespread calls for a nationwide suspension of the ongoing Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) recruitment exercise, following Wednesday’s deadly stampede at the El-Wak Sports Stadium in Accra, the process is continuing at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.
Thousands of young men and women have thronged the stadium at dawn, hoping to secure a place in the country’s military service.
Many have queued, undergoing various stages of physical screening and document verification.
This comes barely 24 hours after six prospective recruits in Accra lost their lives and several others sustained injuries in a stampede, forcing authorities to suspend the process in the capital.
However, in Kumasi, the exercise continues to gather even greater momentum, with large crowds and a heavy security presence.
