Private Solomon Asare Teye-Tsu, the young Ghanaian soldier who gained national recognition for rejecting a bribe from illegal miners, has been promoted to the rank of Lance Corporal by the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF).
The announcement was made by Lieutenant General William Agyapong, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), during an all-ranks durbar held at Burma Camp in Accra, on Friday, July 11, 2025.
L/Cpl Teye-Tsu, who currently serves with the Department of Public Relations, was also nominated to join the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) as part of the rewards for his exemplary conduct.
In addition, he was presented with a formal citation of honour.
Decorating him at the well-attended ceremony, CDS Lt Gen. Agyapong reminded officers and men of the Armed Forces of their oath to the Republic and the importance of upholding professional standards at all times.
“Much as acts of indiscipline attract sanctions, professional conduct such as that demonstrated by L/Cpl. Teye-Tsu will always attract reward and commendation,” the CDS stated.
It would be recalled that the 30-year-old soldier, while on official guard duty at Bibiani Gold Mines late last year, encountered a group of illegal miners (galamsey operators) who attempted to bribe him with a substantial amount of money to allow them access to a mining pit.

Displaying uncommon patriotism and integrity, L/Cpl Teye-Tsu rejected the bribe and arrested the illegal miners, handing them over to the appropriate authorities for prosecution.
His actions were widely praised as a model of discipline and loyalty to national interest. The private security company operating at the mining site, Ojeyz Security Limited, subsequently honoured him with an Outstanding Staff Recognition Award.
The award citation, signed by Captain Haruna Adamu (Rtd), Chief Executive Officer and Founder of Ojeyz Security, described him as a beacon of professionalism and service excellence.
“In appreciation of your commendable performance and unwavering dedication to providing top-notch service, Ojeyz Security Management truly appreciates your professionalism and excellent service delivery,” the citation read.
L/Cpl. Teye-Tsu hails from Odumase-Krobo in the Eastern Region and is an alumnus of Manya Krobo Senior High School and King David College, both in the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality, and also a member of the Kloma Gbi (Voice of the Krobo State) youth advocacy network.
