The Medical Superintendent at the Ga East Municipal Hospital, Dr Eben Oduro Mensah, has revealed that the centre is reducing the number of Covid-19 patients at the treatment base because of limited space for the increasing numbers.

He told Alfred Ocansey on the Sunrise morning show on 3FM Thursday, June 11 that the facility only has 20 out of the 100 beds left to accommodate the patients, hence the need to send some of them, especially the asymptomatic ones to other treatment centres.

The number of Covid-19 cases in Ghana has gone up to 10, 358, the Ghana Health Service has reported.

The number of recoveries has also risen to 3,824. However, the death toll remains 48.

This means there are 6,486 active cases being managed by the health authorities, the Ghana Health Service (GHS) announced.

Dr Oduro Mensah said: “At the treatment centre we are reducing the number of asymptomatic patients we admit. Asymptotic patients go to isolation centres and there are a number of isolations centres around.”

He further called on authorities to scale up the fight against the pandemic.

“If we do not mop up from the communities quickly then we will continue to have community spread.

“Our Covid-19 is rapidly developing, we don’t know a lot about this disease.

“WHO keeps changing the management strategy for Covid-19 so a lot has changed. We are working on our management protocol which will come out in the next couple of weeks.”
