A heartwarming twist of fate has transformed the life of Khadijah Bawuma, 15, a girl from Dakompilayiri in the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District of the Savannah Region, as she receives a full educational scholarship from Frontier Mission Network, a non-profit Christian organisation.

This scholarship, covering her education from class six to university, comes just two years after Myjoyonline highlighted her struggles—the inability to afford education, sanitary pads, and basic necessities.

A Divine Intervention

Apostle Dr. Moses Sansa, Executive Director of Frontier Mission Network, presented Khadijah with an undisclosed amount of money, sanitary pads, and other essential supplies.

Next week, she is expected to receive a school bag, sandals, books, and other personal effects.

Speaking on the motivation behind this intervention, Apostle Dr. Sansa described their mission as God’s calling.

“So, our mission here isn’t by chance, but the Lord’s doing. Because He said, ‘Whatever you do unto the least of my brothers, you do it unto me.’

“We want little Khadijah to know that the Lord has heard her cry and sent us forward. We also appreciate Myjoyonline for their input in shaping society.”

His wife, Confort Sansa, guided Khadijah on how to use the sanitary items provided, ensuring she never has to endure the shame and discomfort she once faced.

A Life of Struggles

Khadijah’s journey has been one of pain and resilience. Abandoned by her mother at the age of four and later by her father, she was raised by her elderly grandmother, Felicia Bawuma, who struggled to provide for her.

As she grew older, a new struggle emerged—her menstrual cycle. With no money to buy sanitary pads, she resorted to using cloth, leading to embarrassment and school absenteeism.

“I don’t have anybody to help me financially. My grandmother used to, but now she says she can’t, and she asks that I use a piece of cloth. But from experience, it will disgrace me again.

“So, anytime my flow is due, I stay away from school. My friends know about it, and some even gave me names. I’m tired of it,” she told Myjoyonline in 2023.

Faced with no other choice, she worked alongside her grandmother on a two-acre maize farm, hoping to earn enough to buy sanitary pads and support themselves.

A New Chapter Begins

Now, thanks to the scholarship and support from Frontier Mission Network, Khadijah’s story has taken a new direction—one filled with hope, education, and the promise of a brighter future.

Her journey serves as a reminder of the silent struggles faced by many young girls in deprived communities and the power of compassion, storytelling, and action.
