From 57 Students to 2,092: ADISEC marks 40 years of excellence and innovation in education

What began as a modest initiative with just 57 students and seven teachers has grown into one of Ghana’s most remarkable educational success stories. Adidome Senior High School (ADISEC) celebrated its 40th anniversary on Saturday with a colourful ceremony that brought together alumni, dignitaries, and traditional leaders to honour four decades of academic achievement and innovation.

Founded on October 1, 1985, by visionary alumni of Adidome E.P. Schools led by the late Rev. E.K. Titiati, ADISEC has expanded dramatically over the years. Today, the school serves 2,092 students with the support of 124 teachers and 43 non-teaching staff.

National Recognition and Inclusive Education

ADISEC has built a solid reputation for academic excellence, earning national recognition through its impressive performances in the National Science and Math Quiz competition.

Beyond academic achievements, the school has been a trailblazer in inclusive education. Since 2008, ADISEC has successfully integrated visually impaired and sighted students in the same classrooms, setting a benchmark for inclusive learning across Ghana.

“This institution embodies the core values of discipline, excellence, and hard work,” said Madam Enyonam Afi Amafuga, immediate past Regional Director of Education, who chaired the event.

Colourful Celebration and Special Honours

The celebration featured a Guard of Honour mounted by the school’s Army Cadet Corps, which was witnessed by the Volta Regional Director of Education, Francis Yaw Agbemadi, and other distinguished guests.

A highlight of the day was the official renaming of the Assembly Hall in honour of former headmaster Martin K. Gozah, who served from 2015 to 2018.

More than 70 students and teachers were recognised for outstanding academic performance and contributions to the school’s growth. The longest-serving headmaster, Mr Fred Mordey, received special recognition for his years of dedicated service.

The Old Students’ Association also donated a set of musical instruments to support extracurricular activities, demonstrating the enduring bond between alumni and their alma mater.

Community Support and Future Goals

Traditional leaders, including the Dufia of Adidome, Torgbe Kwasinyi Kakaklolo Agyeman V, and the Awafiaga of the Mafi Traditional Area, Torgbe Adabla XV, graced the occasion, reflecting the school’s integral role in the community.

Current headmaster Dr Vincent-Dzidula Kwasi Atiku outlined the school’s vision for the future, while acknowledging the infrastructure challenges ADISEC continues to face.

Among the most pressing needs is the construction of a 250-seat ultra-modern staff common room. Currently, teachers operate from makeshift spaces under trees, a testament to their commitment despite limited resources.

Theme Focuses on Growth and Development

The anniversary theme, “Forty Years of Providing Education in Adidome Senior High School – Achievements, Challenges and Prospects: The Role of Stakeholders,” underscored the event’s dual purpose: celebrating past successes while rallying support for future development.

As ADISEC steps into its fifth decade, it stands as a shining example of what visionary leadership, strong community involvement, and unwavering dedication to education can achieve—even amid resource constraints.
