Award-winning online journalist Kobby Kyei has disclosed that some friends once advised him to create an anonymous gossip page to survive in the blogging space.
In an interview on The Career Trail programme aired on Joy Learning TV and Joy News, he revealed that his decision to remain a positive blogger came with many challenges.
According to him, in an environment where sensationalism sells, he was often told his style would not pay off.
“From the beginning, I told myself I wanted to stand for change. I wanted to be known as a positive blogger. But people would tell me, ‘Positivity won’t bring you food; positivity won’t take you anywhere.’ Because here, sensational stories and trending news are what thrive,” he shared.

Kobby Kyei explained that despite posting consistently, he was overlooked at the early stages of his career.
“You post content and you don’t get the likes. You don’t get the viewership. When there are award schemes and invitation programmes, they don’t invite you. Ironically, the people insulting celebrities on Facebook Live and TikTok Live are the ones who get the attention,” he lamented.
He described the experience as frustrating, especially because his brand sought to project public figures positively.
“If I don’t insult celebrities and I put them in a positive light, am I not the one to be invited? But that wasn’t the case,” he said.
During this period, he said friends encouraged him to run two accounts.
They told me, ‘Kobby, you can keep this positive page, but create another page, anonymous, something like Gossip GH, that will fetch you the money,” he recounted.

But he rejected the suggestion, insisting that it clashed with his values.
“I gave them one answer: it has stolen my soul and my spirit. I wouldn’t want to have a Kobby Kyei who is positive on one page and then the same soul disgracing people on the internet with another page. No,” he revealed.
Kobby Kyei admitted the journey has been difficult but added that consistency and focus eventually paid off.
“I told myself it’s going to be hard, but there’s always glory at the end of the tunnel. I never discouraged myself; I kept pushing; I kept posting. And today, it has paid off,” he stated.
