Fifty 50 Club breaks ground for GH₵70k children’s weighing centre at Kyekyewere

The Kyekyewere-Dadwen Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compound is set to receive a major boost following the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of a children’s weighing centre by the Obuasi-based non-profit, The Fifty 50 Club.

The facility, estimated at GH₵70,000, will strengthen child healthcare delivery in the Kyekyewere-Dadwen Electoral Area. It forms part of a series of interventions lined up to commemorate the club’s 5th anniversary.

According to the President of the Club, Jacob Edmund Acquah, the project was in direct response to a request from the health facility during an earlier donation of medical equipment by the club.

“Supporting children’s welfare is fundamental to their growth and development, and this is what we stand for as a club. We believe the weighing centre will improve the quality of life of children,” he said.

When completed, the weighing centre will offer growth monitoring, immunizations, nutritional support (including vitamin A supplementation), and health education for caregivers on hygiene, parenting, and child development.

Mr. Acquah also expressed appreciation to members of the club for their generosity, which has enabled them to impact lives consistently over the past five years.

Endorsements and Gratitude

The Adansi North District Health Director, Eric Attuahene, lauded the initiative, describing it as crucial to enhancing child welfare and maternal health services at the CHPS compound.

He emphasised the weighing centre’s role in preventing mother-to-child transmission of HIV, highlighting that it will support:
•Provision of Antiretroviral Therapy (ART) for HIV-positive mothers,
•Regular HIV testing and counseling for pregnant women, and
•Infant feeding guidance.

The Assembly Member for the Dadwen-Kyekyewere Electoral Area, Appiah Kubi, also commended the club for their support, noting that the project would aid in the planned expansion of the CHPS compound and elevate its status to a full health centre.

Additional Support to Fomena Amass

In a related gesture, The Fifty 50 Club donated GH₵10,000 to T.I. Ahmadiyya Senior High School (Fomena AMASS) to help procure additional metal bunk beds for its female hostel. This follows an earlier donation of 30 metal bunk beds, valued at GH₵24,000, after a fire outbreak destroyed the hostel’s existing beds.

With this, the club has spent a total of GH₵160,000 on donations and projects as part of its 5th anniversary celebrations.
