FanMilk Ghana has crowned Quaye Nungua R/C Basic School as the overall winner of the 2025 FanMilk School Caravan, marking the achievement with the commissioning of a refurbished ICT laboratory for the school.

The event, held at the school’s premises in Nungua, brought together students, teachers, education officials, and local authorities to celebrate outstanding performance in plastic waste collection and environmental education.

Quaye Nungua R/C Basic School secured the top position in Accra after collecting 10,989 wrappers, leading a group of five high-performing schools across the Greater Accra, Ashanti, and Western regions, all of which received legacy projects.

Managing Director of FanMilk Ghana, Lionel Parent, commended the students for their efforts, noting that the initiative goes beyond recycling.

“This effort is not just about collecting wrappers; it is about building lifelong habits. We are proud to commission this ICT lab to support learning and innovation among students,” he said.

The FanMilk School Caravan, launched in 2018, promotes responsible waste disposal and healthy snacking among schoolchildren. To date, it has reached over 500,000 students and facilitated the collection of millions of wrappers.

In 2025 alone, the programme engaged more than 1,000 schools across three regions, reaching over 507,000 students and collecting more than 11.2 million wrappers, which are recycled in partnership with MiniPlast Ghana Limited.

Other award-winning schools also received development projects. Association Community Model Basic School placed second in Accra with 9,485 wrappers and received a refurbished kindergarten playground, while Ashma Tsui-Bleoo No. 2 Basic School placed third with 8,905 wrappers and was awarded an ICT lab.

In the Ashanti Region, Maakro M/A Basic School earned an ICT lab after collecting 9,186 wrappers, while Windo Methodist School in the Western Region received a renovated kindergarten block.

Speaking on behalf of the Minister for Education, Technical Advisor Stephen Kwaku Owusu praised the initiative, describing it as a valuable partnership that instils environmental responsibility in young people.

“These students are demonstrating that protecting the environment is a shared responsibility that must be taken seriously,” he said.

Headteacher of Quaye Nungua R/C Basic School, Georgina Ahiagba, expressed appreciation for the recognition, stating that the new ICT facility would greatly enhance teaching and learning.

FanMilk Ghana continues to partner with the Ghana Education Service and the School Health Education Programme (SHEP) to expand the initiative and promote environmental sustainability among students.
