The family of Gilda Nortey, wife of former New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate for Korle Klottey, Valentino Nii Noi Nortey, has broken its silence, demanding justice following an alleged knife attack on her in the United States.
Gilda Nortey reportedly sustained multiple stab wounds during a domestic confrontation, which family sources say was triggered by threats of divorce.
Speaking to Accra-based Citi News, an uncle of the victim, David Gyapanin, said the incident has left the family deeply shaken but resolute in its pursuit of justice.
“They had a little argument, and my niece said she may file for divorce if things continue that way. My niece said Valentino threatened to either kill himself or kill her. He stabbed her three times. She pleaded with him to take her to the hospital. He agreed on condition that she would not mention his name,” he recounted.
Mr Gyapanin said Gilda eventually managed to escape and seek help on her own.
“Fortunately, she had the car key and drove herself to the hospital where she works. She’s getting better. As a family, we want nothing less than justice,” he said.
He stressed that the family expects the full rigour of the law to be applied.
“It happened in the States, and we want to believe that the laws there will be applied fully. You can’t marry someone’s daughter and, just because she wants to end the marriage, decide to end her life. If justice isn’t served in the U.S., we will pursue it in Ghana,” he added.
Police in Lower Paxton Township confirmed that the incident occurred at about 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 17, 2026, along Mayfair Drive in Pennsylvania. The victim was transported to hospital by first responders and is reported to be in stable condition. Authorities also indicated that there was no danger to the public.
Valentino Nortey, 41, of Harrisburg, has been charged with attempted homicide, possession of an instrument of crime with intent to use, and tampering with or fabricating physical evidence.
Court records show that he was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge David Judy, who denied him bail. He is currently being held at Dauphin County Prison and is expected to face a preliminary hearing on January 26, 2026, as the investigations continue.
